Lok Sewa photo size in KB and pixels
When you fill the Lok Sewa Aayog online form (लोक सेवा आयोग अनलाइन आवेदन), the portal asks you to upload a recent passport-size photo and a scan of your signature. Most rejected uploads fail for one of three reasons: the file is bigger than the KB limit, it is in the wrong format (PNG or HEIC instead of JPG), or the photo is not cropped like a passport photo. This resizer fixes all three in one place, and it runs completely inside your browser, so your photo is never uploaded anywhere.
We could not find a single published PSC notice that fixes the pixel size for all time; the portal shows its limits on the upload screen and each advertisement (विज्ञापन) can add its own instructions. The table below summarises what applicant guides currently report. Treat it as a starting point and check your advertisement before you upload.
PSC and provincial upload requirements (as reported)
| Portal | Photo | Signature | Documents |
|---|---|---|---|
| Federal PSC (psconline.psc.gov.np) | JPG, ~300×350 px, 10–200 KB, white/light background | JPG, ~300×80 px, 5–100 KB | As stated in the advertisement |
| Provincial PSCs (Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, Sudurpashchim) | JPG, 350×350 px (square), under 200 KB | JPG/PNG, under 100 KB | JPG or PDF, under 500 KB each |
| Printed/physical form | 35 mm × 45 mm passport photo | Signed in ink | Attested copies as listed |
Values change between advertisements and portal updates – the KB and pixel boxes in the tool are editable for exactly that reason. The tool targets slightly below your limit (it counts 1 KB as 1000 bytes) so the file passes whichever way the portal measures.
फोटो साइज कति हुनुपर्छ? (Photo rules in short)
- Recent colour photo (हालसालै खिचेको रंगीन फोटो) with your face straight to the camera, eyes open, both ears visible.
- Plain white or light background – no patterned walls, no other people, no shadows behind your head.
- No cap, sunglasses, beauty filters or edited backgrounds.
- Head and top of shoulders – the face should fill roughly two-thirds of the height. The dashed oval in the tool shows where your face should sit.
- JPG/JPEG format only. PNG files and phone camera photos are saved as JPG automatically when you download.
How to reduce photo size for the PSC form
A photo from a modern phone is usually 3000–4000 pixels wide and 2–5 MB. The portal wants a few hundred pixels and under 200 KB. Simply shrinking the picture in a gallery app often produces a blurry face or a file that is still too large. This tool does it in the right order:
- It crops to the exact shape (for example 300×350) so nothing is stretched.
- It resamples the photo in steps, which keeps eyes and hair sharp.
- It finds the highest JPEG quality that still fits under your KB limit (a binary search), so you get the best possible picture for the allowed size.
- Only if the limit is extremely small does it reduce the pixel size – and it tells you when that happens.
Lok Sewa signature size and how to scan it
For the signature (हस्ताक्षर), sign two or three times on clean white A4 paper with a black or dark blue pen, pick your best one, and photograph it in daylight with the phone held flat above the paper. In the Signature tab, drag the frame so the signature fills most of the width with a little white space around it, then switch on Whiten background and press Auto. The tool turns grey paper into pure white and darkens the ink, which also makes the file much smaller. The signature you upload should match the one you will sign in the exam hall and on your admit card, so do not use a stylised digital signature.
Common mistakes that get photos rejected
- Uploading a screenshot of a photo instead of the photo itself (blurry, wrong shape).
- Using an old photo – the photo must match how you look on exam day; invigilators compare it with your face.
- Dark or yellow indoor light that makes the background grey. Stand near a window facing the light.
- Cropping too tightly so the chin or top of the head is cut off.
- Signature on lined or coloured paper, or photographed at an angle with a shadow of the phone.
- Uploading the photo in the signature box (or the reverse) – check before you press save.
Other documents for the online form
Citizenship, academic certificates and inclusive-group certificates usually have their own size limits. Turn phone photos of them into a single file with the image to PDF converter, and shrink large scans with the PDF compressor. Not sure which papers you need? Use the Lok Sewa document checklist. Keep an eye on deadlines in the PSC calendar, and once your form is submitted, start revising with the official syllabus and free practice questions.
