Nepali date converter: BS to AD and AD to BS
Nepal runs on the Bikram Sambat calendar (विक्रम संवत्, वि.सं.). Your citizenship certificate (नागरिकताको प्रमाणपत्र), Lok Sewa advertisements, exam routines and government letters use BS dates, while passports, international certificates and most apps use the English Gregorian calendar (AD). This miti converter turns one into the other instantly and also tells you the weekday (बार), so you never have to search an old patro again.
Everything runs in your browser – nothing you enter is sent to a server – and the converter works for any date from 2000 BS to 2090 BS (14 April 1943 to 13 April 2034 AD).
How to convert BS to AD (and AD to BS)
- Select BS → AD, then choose the year, the month (shown as बैशाख, जेठ, असार… with English names) and the day.
- The English date appears immediately with the weekday in English and Nepali.
- For the reverse, select AD → BS and choose the English date. The result is shown in Devanagari (e.g. २०८३ कात्तिक १, आइतबार) and in Latin digits.
- Use Copy to paste the exact result instead of retyping it.
Why there is no simple formula
You may have heard that you can “subtract 56 years, 8 months and 17 days” to convert BS to AD. That trick is only a rough guide. BS months are not fixed: each month can have 29, 30, 31 or even 32 days, and the lengths change from year to year according to the official panchang (calendar) published each year in Nepal. The only reliable way is a lookup table of month lengths for every year – which is what this tool uses. A one-day error matters: Lok Sewa age limits are checked to the exact day.

Date of birth in BS for Lok Sewa forms
The Public Service Commission (लोक सेवा आयोग) online form asks for your date of birth in BS, and it should match your citizenship certificate exactly. If you only know your AD birthday (from a passport, SEE certificate or a foreign document), convert it here and double-check it against your citizenship. If your documents show different dates, sort that out before applying – the Commission checks eligibility against your documents.
Need to know whether you are within the age limit? Use the Lok Sewa age calculator, which counts your exact age in BS on the last date of application. For upcoming deadlines see the Lok Sewa calendar, and to prepare your papers use the document checklist.
Count days between two dates (मिति अन्तर)
The Date difference tab counts the years, months and days between two dates, plus the total number of days and weeks. It is useful for working out experience (अनुभव) from an appointment date, days left until an exam, or how long ago a certificate was issued. Choose whether you want to enter BS or AD dates; the total days are the same either way, but the year/month/day split follows the calendar you pick because month lengths differ.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Using the “56 years 8 months” shortcut – it is often a day or two off.
- Mixing up Asar/Ashadh, Ashwin/Asoj, Poush/Push – the same month has several spellings; the Nepali names are shown next to the English ones to avoid confusion.
- Assuming 30 days in every month – Asar can have 32 days and Mangsir 29.
- Typing English digits in a field that wants Nepali digits (or the other way round) – copy the format you need from the result card.
Accuracy and sources
Conversions use the open-source nepali-date-converter calendar data (2000–2090 BS). We spot-checked recent dates against published Nepali calendars (for example, Kartik 1, 2083 = Sunday 18 October 2026). For a legal deadline, always confirm the date printed in the official notice on psc.gov.np. Preparing for the exam too? Try free practice questions and a timed mock exam.
