Compress PDF for the Lok Sewa online application
The Lok Sewa Aayog online form and the provincial PSC portals ask you to upload copies of your academic certificates, transcripts (लब्धाङ्कपत्र), character certificate, equivalence letter, inclusive-group certificate (समावेशी प्रमाणपत्र) and sometimes experience letters. Each upload box has a size limit, and a scan from a phone app or office scanner is often 2–10 MB. This tool reduces a PDF to 200 KB, 500 KB, 1 MB or any custom limit without installing software and without uploading your documents to a website.
Typical upload limits
| Document | Common format | Size to aim for |
|---|---|---|
| Academic certificates, transcripts | PDF or JPG | Limit in your advertisement – provincial portals often 500 KB |
| Inclusive / multiple certificates | One combined PDF | Same limit as above |
| Citizenship (front & back) | JPG or PDF, as the form asks | Check the upload screen |
| Photo / signature | JPG | Use the photo & signature resizer |
Limits differ between the Federal PSC, the seven provincial commissions and other bodies, and they can change between advertisements – so the target here is always editable. Check your advertisement before uploading.
How the compressor reaches an exact KB size
Normal “optimise” tools only remove hidden data, which rarely helps with scanned certificates because a scan is already one big image per page. To guarantee a size, this tool:
- Reads each page with pdf.js and draws it at up to 150 dpi – sharp enough for printed marks and seals.
- Tries a JPEG quality and resolution for every page, measures the total, and adjusts – keeping resolution high first, then lowering it only when needed.
- Builds a new PDF with pdf-lib with the same page sizes and order, and checks the final file is under your limit.
The trade-off: pages become pictures, so text cannot be selected or searched. For PSC uploads this does not matter – the verifying officer only needs to read the document – but keep the original for your records.
PDF size kasari ghataune? Tips for a smaller, clearer file
- Upload only the pages asked for. A four-year transcript is often one page per year; if the form asks for the final transcript only, don't include the rest.
- Use Black & white for printed certificates. Grayscale pages are much smaller, so the tool can keep a higher resolution and the text stays crisp.
- Scan flat and well-lit. Shadows and a wooden table background waste kilobytes. Crop to the paper edge before making the PDF with the image to PDF converter.
- Don't compress twice. Always start from the original scan; compressing an already compressed file loses detail quickly.
- Zoom in before uploading. Your name, date of birth, division/GPA and the seal must be readable at 100%.
Compress JPG or PNG to 100 KB, 200 KB
Some upload boxes accept only images. Open the Compress image tab, add the photo of your document and choose the KB limit. The tool finds the highest JPEG quality that fits and only reduces pixels if it must. PNG screenshots are converted to JPG with a white background, which is usually 5–10 times smaller. For your passport photo and signature, use the dedicated Lok Sewa photo size tool instead, because it also crops to the required shape.
Common mistakes with PSC document uploads
- Uploading the front of the citizenship only when the form needs both sides – combine them into one PDF first.
- Uploading a password-protected PDF from a bank or university portal – the PSC system may not open it.
- Squeezing a 10-page PDF into 200 KB in colour so the marks become unreadable; use grayscale or fewer pages.
- Renaming a JPG to .pdf – the portal checks the real file type. Convert it properly with our image to PDF tool.
- Leaving uploads to the last day, when the portal is slow. Check deadlines in the PSC calendar.
After your form is submitted
Once the documents are in, your time is better spent on preparation. Follow the official syllabus, practise with free MCQ sets, take a timed mock exam and build speed with Nepali typing practice if your post has a computer test. The document checklist helps you confirm nothing is missing before you pay the fee.
