a. First Phase : Application Screening & Initial Medical Check-up (IMCE):

  • Application Screening: Application applied by the candidate is checked for eligibility. The candidates who meet the criteria are accepted and screened.
  • Initial Medical Check-up: Basic health checkup is done to see if the candidate meets the physical standard or not. This principles are specified in the schedule-6 of Civil Service Act 2069.

i. Physical Endurance Evaluation Test(PEET):

The Physical Endurance Evaluation Test, or PEET, is a fitness check to see if someone is strong and healthy enough for a job, like in the military or police. It has different tasks for both boys and girls to test their speed, strength, and stamina. Each task has a clear goal to pass, and every candidates need to meet these standards to move forward.

Physical Endurance Evaluation Test Includes:
  • Running(300 meters): pass till 55 seconds, fail above 55 seconds (for boys).
  • Running(300 meters): pass till 37 seconds, fail above 37 seconds (for girls).
  • High Jump(3 feet): pass if jumps 3 feet and fails if candidate jumps less than 3 feet (for boys).
  •  High Jump(2 feet): pass if jumps 2 feet and fails if candidate jumps less than 2 feet (for girls).
  • Sit-ups(12 times): Pass if sit-ups 12 times and fails if candidate sit-ups less than 12.(for boys)
  • Sit-ups(5 times): Pass if sit-ups 5 times and fails if candidate sit-ups less than 5.(for girls)
  • push-ups(10 times):  Pass if push-ups 10 times and fails if candidate push-ups less than 10.(for boys).
  • push-ups(10 times):  Pass if push-ups 4 times and fails if candidate push-ups less than 4.(for girls).
  • Boys must do at least 3 chin-ups, and girls must hang from a bar for at least 30 seconds to pass the exam.
  • Running(3.2 kilometers): Boys should complete 3.2 kilometers/2 miles running in less than 18 minutes to pass the test. Otherwise the candidate got rejected from the examination. Meanwhile, Girls should complete 3.2 kilometers/2 miles running in less than 21 minutes to pass the test. 
  • Detailed Medical Check-up: It is the second medical test, where detailed  medical examination is done  to ensure if the candidate is fit for the service or not.

c. Third Phase: Written Exam:

There are 3 phases of written exams:

First Paper: General Ability and Reasoning Test (GART) (Full Marks: 100, Pass Marks: 40):

  • General Knowledge (50 Marks): Questions about Nepal, history, geography, technology, constitution, etc.
  • Reasoning (50 Marks): Logical, numerical, verbal, non-verbal reasoning.

 Second Paper: Language Proficiency Test (LPT)(Full Marks: 100, Pass Marks: 40):

  • English (50 Marks): English test like Comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, translation, essay writing and report writing.
  • Nepali (50 Marks):  Nepali test like Essays writing, grammar, paragraph writing, proverbs, etc.

Third Paper: Professional Orientation Aptitude Test (POAT)(Full Marks: 100, Pass Marks: 40):

  • Part I: Professional Knowledge: Professional knowledge is checked like Introduction to Police, Security Management, Police work, crime investigation and reporting, laws, police organization, patrolling, complaints filing and handling various domestic violences. The total marks of the exam are 100 and pass marks is 40. Candidates have to complete the paper in time limit of 2 hrs 15 minutes.
  • Part II: Behavioral Test: Behavioural test measures the abilities of candidate like Situation-based tasks like report writing, incident analysis is checked to ensure that the candidate is fit for the position.

d. Fourth Phase – Special Medical Checkup:

  • More detailed health checkup is done on any special medical conditions and chronic illness like Tuberculosis, asthma, diabetes. Internal organs are also examined by the specialists to ensure the candidate is perfect for the applied position.

e. Fifth Phase – Group Discussion & Interview:

  • Competency Test: Group Discussion (10 Marks): Group task like team-based tasks and problem-solving tasks and  discussion of the final results. During the test, all candidates will be closely observed by the evaluators. They will take note of the critical behaviors demonstrated by each candidate throughout the group discussion. These observed behaviors will be evaluated against the predefined competencies, using specific behavioral indicators as a reference. 4. Reservation Policy in Nepal Police Recruitment:

In the budget for fiscal year 2081/82 (2024/2025), Finance Minister Barsa Man Pun did not announce any salary or benefit increase for government employees, including Nepal Police. Currently, the salary for an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) in grade 7 is NPR 28,570. The grade rate is 953 which makes  the total salary of  NPR 35,241. Nepal Police Officers get a monthly ration of Rs. 6,000 to Rs. 24,000, separate from their salary. Officers in remote areas get Rs. 800 per day, while others get Rs. 200 per day. Both salary and ration are paid monthly.
